I'm having the same problem with the unit forgetting all settings every time I plug it into my computer.
Don't hold your breath for a software update from Garmin to fix this--I just got off the phone with their tech support, and the rep told me this is NOT a known issue with the unit, and that apparently I was the only one who has ever reported it, therefore they will not be coming out with a software fix for it...ever. He recommended I return the unit to Amazon for a replacement.
Maybe you can help out by calling their Support line and reporting your issue also. If they get a few more calls maybe they'll do something about it.
